Determine your starting point. The starting point will be a location east of the destination. Which means you will be heading west into the sun. Enjoying the journey is a great part of the experience of Chasing a Sunset. You want to pick a starting point that will take you on the scenic route through an area on the way to your destination location.
Once you have your starting point and ending location you need to check the actual time of sunset for that day. Then you can figure out how much time it will take which will determine your start time. Be aware of the road conditions because this will factor how long you will need to make the run and stay on time. Always better to be a few minutes early than late. When traveling on country roads remember you will most likely not be traveling at freeway speeds. On a straight multi-lane freeway you can cover a mile a minute at 60 mph.. On a rural or country highway driving at 35 to 45 mph. means it will take longer than a minute to cover a mile.
